The commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces suggested that the United States could transfer A-10 aircraft to Ukraine.
Ukraine needs more combat aircraft, such as the American A-10 attack aircraft to support the infantry and aircraft capable of launching long-range cruise missiles. The commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, stated this in an interview with Reuters.
“I would talk about the A-10 as one of the options if they give it to us… It is not a new machine, but it is reliable, proven in many wars, has a wide range of weapons for destroying ground targets. to assist the infantry,” he said.
The A-10s will provide critical support to ground forces attempting to seize the initiative, Syrsky said. “It is designed to destroy ground targets: tanks, artillery… everything that opposes the infantry,” the commander said.
Syrsky added that attack helicopters such as the AH-64 Apache and AH-1 Super Cobra, as well as the UH-60 Black Hawk, could also play an important role.
In addition to calls for more aircraft, Ukraine has asked its allies to speed up supplies of artillery ammunition, which some units have complained about being in short supply.
It was previously reported that the first six Ukrainian pilots have completed basic training at the Royal Air Force and are now learning to fly F-16 fighters in Denmark.
At the end of December, the Dutch government decided to prepare the first 18 F-16 fighters for transfer to Ukraine.
