The United States is trying to convince EU countries “to be the first to take illegal actions,” said Maria Zakharova.
The aggressor country Russia will take “painful measures” in the event of the confiscation of Russian assets in the West. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing on Friday, January 12.
“Retaliatory measures will be taken, and the measures will be taken in such a way that they will be noticed, felt, and painful for those unleashing the next phase of trade, economic and financial war,” he said.
Commenting on the information that appeared in the Western media that the White House supports the confiscation of Russian assets worth more than $300 billion, Zakharova said that “there is nothing new in Washington’s principled attitude to such matters.”
According to an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the United States is trying to convince EU countries “to be the first to take illegitimate actions” to confiscate Russian assets, so that the EU “accepts all the inevitable negative economic, legal and moral consequences of such a move.”
“The withdrawal of our sovereign reserves is fraught with disastrous consequences for the financial sphere and investment in the states that, contrary to the warnings of sensible experts, take such a step. The Russian side is not interested in such a development of the situation, but ready for any options, including those that provide sufficient revenge unfriendly actions,” added Zakharova.
Earlier, the media reported that the United States had begun urgent negotiations on Russian assets. In particular, the Joe Biden administration is pressing Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan to prepare a strategy for using frozen money on the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
