The President reproached Western partners that if they had given Ukraine more powerful air defense systems, then people would not have died from massive Russian missile attacks using ballistics.
How can you live peacefully and sleep if you understand that you have dozens of such systems (Patriot), and if Ukraine were given 7 systems today, people in Kharkov, Kherson, Odessa would not die? Is it possible to live normally with this? – said the head of state.
At the same time as criticism, the president thanked Western partners for their support
Among other important statements by Zelensky:
About the freeze of war
The conflict cannot be allowed to freeze. Do not give Russia the opportunity to prepare for a powerful counter-offensive in a year, two, three, five. Don’t let them do it. Don’t let Russia become powerful again. We must end the war before this.
About the situation at the front
The situation is very difficult, we do not have enough weapons. And if the Russians did not control the air, and we had a sufficient number of air defense systems, we would destroy their aircraft. We tried it and it works. When you destroy them in the sky, you move forward. There are no big steps forward in Ukraine because they control the sky.
ABOUT NATO
We would like to see a real step from NATO countries, bringing Ukraine closer to NATO, so that there is no stagnation. I think this is very necessary not only for us, but also for Washington, so that the NATO countries show that they are not afraid of Russia. Because the fewer steps Ukraine takes to move closer to NATO, this suggests that the greater the fear someone has of Russia. You can’t show this – it will be a big mistake, it will give ambition to the Russian President.
About security guarantees
We have begun work on security guarantees. It’s very difficult to leave. But I think that in the near future we will be able to demonstrate to societies, not only the Ukrainian one, the first such draft. I think the assessment will be positive.
