Amsterdam stressed the need for “fair and thorough conditions” for Ukraine’s EU membership.
The Netherlands asks the European Commission to carefully prescribe conditions for Ukraine’s further approach to EU membership, the EuObserver report related in the relevant document.
It noted that the Netherlands confirmed its readiness for EU expansion as a whole, but stressed the need for “fair and thorough conditions.”
In particular, the European Commission is called to prescribe in its conclusion what reforms in Ukraine need to be implemented in the future.
Earlier, the media reported that two EU countries were opposed to granting member status to Ukraine’s candidate – the Netherlands and Denmark.
At the beginning of the week, the European Commission held a preliminary debate on the applications of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia for granting candidate status for EU membership. According to media reports, applications of Ukraine and Moldova will be approved with conditions.
The European Commission is expected to make a decision on the countries ’applications on June 17. But EU leaders will discuss the issue next week.
