“We have made significant progress by agreeing to specific conditions, elements of a new defense model, and have also heard that many allies are ready to strengthen this model,” the Secretary-General said. NATO.
Later, he specified that three pillars would be the basis of the Alliance’s new defense model on the eastern side.
“The first is to increase the forward presence with more combat operations. In the past few months, we have doubled the number of combat groups in the east from four to eight,” the NATO Secretary -General said.
He mentioned that the second pillar of the model is the pre-deployment of military equipment to save time when mobilization is needed.
“And the third element is the initial definition of units – these are the forces that will be trained in a particular territory, where there will be certain roles … That is, not all forces will be deployed, and some will will be deployed in advance, and the rest will be in their own country, but be prepared to move if necessary, ”Stoltenberg explains.
He concluded that the new defense model for NATO’s eastern side would mean “a significant increase in deterrence and defense capabilities across the Alliance.”
