Macron confirmed the existence of restrictions on the supply of certain types of heavy weapons in Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that Western countries have an agreement not to provide Ukraine with certain types of weapons, in particular, attack aircraft and tanks, to avoid being taken to a war with Russia. He stated this in a conversation with Ukrainian journalists, reports Ukrinform.
“You are talking about an unofficial agreement, but it is almost the official position of NATO partners that we are helping Ukraine to defend itself, but we will not go to war with Russia. Therefore, it was agreed not to give up of certain weapons, such as attack aircraft or tanks, and President Zelensky is aware of this agreement, ”he said.
Macron added that France was assisting Ukraine mainly with ammunition and “certain types of weapons”, armored vehicles, and also provided 12 Caesar self-propelled guns.
“But President Zelensky has asked for more, and six more will be added to these 12 in the near future,” the French president promised.
On June 16, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi arrived in Ukraine. European leaders visited Irpin, after which they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Emmanuel Macron promised not to force Ukraine into peace talks with Russia. They said that the Ukrainian authorities should personally determine the conditions for a dialogue with the Kremlin.
