The Russian Guard is the second most important component of the Russian occupation forces after the SR RF. Members of this formation serve as rear detachments to suppress civil resistance – their responsibilities include carrying out filtration activities among the civilian population and identifying participants in the underground movement.

As of January 2024, Russia has concentrated about 35 thousand National Guardsmen in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The Center for National Resistance reported this today, January 7, with reference to data received from the Ukrainian underground.
It is noted that the forces of the Russian Guard at TOT consist of:
- half of them are regular formations, which are structured into a brigade, five battalion tactical groups and 44 tactical groups;
- the rest are more than 100 consolidated units, which are imported from Russia on a rotational basis. Consolidated units are formed from among riot police officers and assemblies.
In addition to service vehicles and armored fighting vehicles, these units are armed with tanks, artillery systems, and helicopters. And they use this entire range of weapons to subdue those who disagree with the Russian occupation. After all, this is exactly how their “grandfathers” acted in the ranks of the NKVD, when Soviet troops occupied the West of Ukraine and the Baltic countries after 1945, the CNS notes.
According to the CNS, these units were also involved in protecting “polling stations” at the WTO during the pseudo-referendum in September 2022 and the pseudo-elections in September 2023.
Along with the fact that, in general, these units on the territory of Russia itself are responsible for preserving the ruling regime of Putin and his entourage, it can be argued that Putin’s National Guard is the Russian analogue of the Gestapo of the Third Reich, notes the CNS.
Undoubtedly, it will be the employees of the Russian Guard who will put pressure on the civilian population in the process of preparing for the “elections” of the Russian President, which are scheduled for March 2024, the CNS adds.
In addition to carrying out military operations against the civilian population, members of the National Guard also:
- actively involved in propaganda activities in educational institutions;
- play the role of power projection, constantly patrolling populated areas in armored combat vehicles and in full gear.
The Center for National Resistance calls for transmitting information about the actions of the Russian occupation forces and administrations to our chatbot. By doing this, you are accelerating the de-occupation of your region,” the CNS notes.
