The Israeli military has completed the elimination of the Hamas military structure in the northern Gaza Strip. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said this on Saturday, January 6, The Times of Israel reports.
“We have completed the destruction of the Hamas military base in the northern part of the Strip and we will continue to deepen the achievements, strengthen the barrier and defensive structures on the border,” Hagari said.
He admitted it took three months to defeat Hamas in northern Gaza and prevent the terror group’s battalions from launching large-scale attacks.
An IDF spokesman warned that despite the victory over Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, there is still the possibility of isolated rocket attacks against Israel from these areas.
Hagari added that the IDF is now focused on eliminating Hamas from central and southern Gaza.
“We will do it in different ways, carefully, based on the lessons we have learned from the conflict this time,” he emphasized.
Refugee camps in central Gaza are “dense and full of terrorists” and Khan Yunis is “an underground city with vast tunnels,” Hagari said.
“It will last, the fighting will continue throughout 2024. We are working according to the plan to achieve the goals of the war: remove Hamas from the center and the south and continue all efforts, intelligence, operations and military pressure to bring back the captive,” said the IDF spokesman.
At the same time, the Israeli army is building new defenses along the Gaza border to allow residents displaced since October 7 to return to their homes, he said.
