Thanks to this air defense system, one of the air targets was destroyed by soldiers of the 1129 Belotserkovsky anti-aircraft missile regiment. The Stratcom of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on January 5 in Telegram.
This is how the Avenger air defense system works! – says the caption to the video.
Ukraine received Avenger (“Avenger”) anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States of America. The equipment is armed with four FIM-92 Stinger missiles and a 12.7 mm Browning Browning M2 heavy machine gun, and a thermal imaging sight allows it to operate day and night.
The Avenger can shoot down air targets at altitudes of 0.5-3.8 km and at ranges of 0.5-5.5 km. The short-range air defense system is mounted on the chassis of the HMMWV army SUV.
Let us remind you that on the night of January 5, Ukrainian air defense shot down 21 of the 29 launched Shahed drones. The Russians attacked in two waves from the Primorsko-Akhtarsky region and the Crimean Cape Chauda, and destroyed the Shaheds within the Nikolaev, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Kirovograd and Khmelnytsky regions.
