High-ranking Russian representatives of the dictatorship may be interested in showing the Russian Federation as a country that “adheres to humanitarian and other legal principles.” This is stated in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts believe that the desire to launch a new information campaign may be due to the fact that over the past few weeks there have been a series of incidents that violate the Geneva Prisoners of War Convention. The invaders used Ukrainian captured soldiers and officers in active hostilities as human shields. There were also cases of execution of Ukrainian prisoners.
ISW notes that the timing of the exchange could be part of a new information campaign.
Let us remind you that the largest exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion took place on January 3. 230 Ukrainians returned home.
This exchange of prisoners took place after a long pause, because the aggressor country blocked this process for a long time. This exchange was the 49th since the start of a full-scale war. Ukraine managed to return home 2 thousand 828 defenders.
