We have not received written confirmation that our demands will be met, so we continue the protest,” said the organization’s leader, Roman Kondruv.
Farmers are demanding subsidies for the purchase of corn and leaving the agricultural tax unchanged. The leader of the protesters, Roman Kondruv, assured that written guarantees would automatically end the blockade of the checkpoint.
In addition, they want to regulate the conditions for the import of products from Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war, agricultural Ukraine was sharply limited in its ability to export its grain. As a result, the load on transport corridors passing from Ukraine to EU countries has increased. Their work led to the fact that grain began to become cheaper for farmers from Poland, which caused tension between the countries.
This first caused protests from farmers, then they were supported by the authorities – from April 16, 2023, there was a ban on the import of Ukrainian grain into the European Union; this decision was lobbied by Ukraine’s neighbors in the EU.
