During landing, the new passenger airliner, launched just two years ago, collided with a Japanese coast guard transport plane.
During the collision, the Airbus’ landing gear came off and the aircraft actually slid on its fuselage along the runway. Rescuers immediately arrived on the scene, and all passengers and crew members of the plane were evacuated. A few minutes later the Airbus was completely burnt out.
The Coast Guard aircraft was required to deliver humanitarian aid to the earthquake zone on the west coast of the country. The NHK television channel reported that five crew members of the transport plane that collided with the airliner were killed, one managed to evacuate.
The accident in Tokyo was the first involving an Airbus A350 aircraft. At this time, more than 570 aircraft of this type have been delivered to various airlines, each of them costs about $280 million.
