Ukraine should be part of the European Union, and the community should take responsibility for further support of Ukraine.
Finland will continue to help Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia, and will also strengthen its defense capabilities. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo announced this in his New Year’s speech on Monday, January 1, writes UP.
He noted that the people of Finland remain on the side of Ukraine, and the country’s industry wants to increase the production of weapons.
“Our decisions at the national level, such as increasing the production capacity for heavy ammunition, allow us to support Ukraine in the long term. At the same time, we are also strengthening our own defense capabilities,” said by Orpo.
The Prime Minister recalled that Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine has been going on for almost two years, noting that it has changed the security situation in Europe, while “Ukrainians are bravely fighting for their country, for Europe as a whole and for Western values.”
Also in his speech, he noted that Ukraine has started the process of accession negotiations with the EU and that it will become part of the European family.
“Within the framework of the European Union, we are actively working to ensure that Europe is united with Ukraine. The start of accession negotiations with Ukraine is a sign of hope for the Ukrainian people: Ukraine is is invited to join the European family, and the place is in the EU,” stressed Orpo.
He added that by accepting Ukraine to the EU, the community undertakes obligations of long-term support for Kyiv.
We remind you that Finland has sent Ukraine a military aid package worth 106 million euros.
Earlier, the Finnish government made changes to the budget for next year, proposing an increase in aid to Ukraine by 95 million euros.
