Pope calls for prayers for “martyred Ukrainian citizens”

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church remembered the wars fought in the world and he responded to the conscience of those interested in them.

In his New Year’s address on Sunday, December 31, Pope Francis called on those interested in the war to be the “voice of conscience” and mentioned the “martyr Ukrainian citizens,” Vatican News reported.

The pope remembered Ukraine after the “Angel of the Lord” prayer, commenting on the conflicts in which the world is suffering.

“Let us not pray for the people who suffer in wars: for the martyred Ukrainian people, for the Palestinian and Israeli people, for the people of Sudan and for many others,” the Pope said.

He called on everyone in the world to ask themselves a rhetorical question: how many lives have been lost in armed conflicts? The pontiff also mentioned other disturbances that are a direct result of the war. According to the Pope, people who are interested in fighting must “listen to the voice of conscience.”

Let’s remember that Pope Francis, in the Sunday meeting on December 17, also mentioned Ukraine and called for prayer for peace.

Earlier, the Pope criticized Europe for not offering a “creative way” to end the war in Ukraine.
