The State Border Service states that several groups of evaders and their “guides” have been detained.
Ukrainian border guards detained two groups of evaders at the Slovakian border. Now the men face up to 7 years in prison. The State Border Service of Ukraine reported this on Friday, December 29, on Telegram.
Border guards reported that several groups of men who tried to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Slovak border were detained in the past 24 hours.
According to the service, a service dog helped locate five people approaching the state border.
The other six were prevented from crossing the border illegally due to early intelligence as well as vigilance by border patrol agents. One of those detained was a ferryman who, for a monetary reward, agreed to help the Transcarpathian reach Slovakia.
“10 violators and a smuggler: there is a New Year’s disturbance at the Slovakian border. All detainees will be held administratively liable, and the smuggler may face imprisonment from 5 to 7 years,” the State Border Guard Service reported.
As we wrote earlier, almost 11 thousand men tried to cross the border illegally in 2023. In particular, border guards detained about 8,000 men who tried to cross the border outside checkpoints, and 3,000 who gave of false documents at checkpoints.
