The number of illegal border crossings with the United States from Mexico has exceeded 10 thousand people per day.
A giant convoy of thousands of migrants from Central America and elsewhere is heading through Mexico toward the US border. The Washington Post reported this on Thursday, December 28.
It was noted that among them were many families with children, this was the largest influx of migrants to the United States in a year. The migrants called their march the “Exodus from Poverty.”
According to the publication, the number of illegal border crossings with the United States has exceeded 10 thousand people per day. Some of them cross the border through holes in the border wall made by smugglers.
US President Joe Biden said he would send officials to Mexico in the coming days to help fight the influx of migration. He said the number of illegal border crossings had forced US authorities to close two major rail crossings and other ports of entry.
Journalists for the publication noted that the Biden administration still hasn’t said publicly what specific actions it wants from Mexico. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told them that “this is about getting the Mexican government to carry out targeted operations.”
Two other officials told reporters that the United States wants to increase the number of deportation flights to southern Mexico that will take migrants as well as Central Americans.
Recall that in December it was reported that Biden proposed changes to the US border policy.
More than 60 migrants, including children, have drowned off the coast of Libya
