The authorities of the German city of Troisdorf blocked the plans of a large arms company to expand local production, whose products were intended for Ukraine. This was reported by Euractiv.
The mayor of Troisdorf rarely plays a role in international politics, but in early December, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius spoke about blocking the expansion of production, the media note.
For weeks, authorities in Troisdorf have been at loggerheads with arms giant Diehl Defense, whose local plant makes the ignition devices needed for missile and rocket charges. These components are used in the production of IRIS-T air defense systems, three of which are supplied by the German government to Ukraine.
Diehl Defense believes the future of its Troisdorf site is under serious threat after the city decided to lay claim to part of the business park where the DynITEC Group subsidiary is based.
A gun manufacturer wants to buy land being sold by the former Dynamit Nobel gun factory to expand its production capacity. Local authorities plan to set aside an area the size of 50 football fields for homes and offices.
