Berlin, in mid-December 2023, exported weapons worth 11.71 billion euros.
The German government has set a new record for arms exports in 2023 at 11.71 billion euros, the main part of which is aid to Ukraine. The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced this on Wednesday, December 27, in response to a written request from a member of the Bundestag, the German news agency DPA reports.
The previous record of 9.35 billion euros from 2021 was exceeded by 25% in mid-December. Compared to 2022, this increase is 40%.
More than one-third of approved exports went to Ukraine for its defense campaign against Russian forces, totaling €4.15 billion.
The figures relate to the period from January 1 to December 12, during which Germany approved the supply of weapons worth 6.15 billion euros and other military equipment worth 5.57 billion euros.
About 90% went to EU and NATO countries, to Ukraine and countries equivalent to NATO countries in terms of arms export control – be it Japan, Australia or South Korea. In so-called third countries such as Israel, the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia.
The German government has authorized the sale of German-made weapons and other defense equipment worth 1.76 billion euros.
As we wrote earlier, Germany updated on Friday, December 22, the list of military aid provided to Ukraine. In particular, additional Gepard anti-aircraft guns appeared there.
Let’s add that Germany has allocated 120 Marder infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine, which is 40 units more than the original plan. Some of these infantry fighting vehicles were purchased in Greece.
