According to the State Revenue Service of Latvia, this year 271 cars confiscated from drunk Latvian drivers were transferred to Ukraine for a total amount exceeding 900 thousand euros.
As Delfi writes, in February the Latvian Seimas unanimously adopted changes to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, allowing for the free transfer into the ownership of the Ukrainian government of vehicles confiscated by the state as support for Ukrainian society.
After these changes in the law came into force, the Latvian government this year has already made several decisions to transfer confiscated cars to Ukraine.
According to Delfi, documents on the transfer of another 34 cars to Ukraine are being prepared for consideration by the government; their cost is estimated at approximately 160 thousand euros.
