A missile from a drone hit the stern of the ship and set the ship on fire, which was extinguished without any casualties among the crew.
In the Indian Ocean, a drone attacked a merchant ship sailing under the flag of Liberia. This was reported by The Times of Israel on Saturday, December 23.
It is said that the one in question is the Chem Pluto tanker, which carries chemicals. The incident occurred 120 miles southwest of the Indian port of Veraval.
A missile from a drone hit the stern and started a fire on board, which was extinguished without casualties among the crew of 20 people, mostly Indian nationals. The ship also received a hole, but remained afloat.
According to media reports, the Chem Pluto tanker was on its way from Saudi Arabia to India. It is owned by a company from Japan, but “has ties to Israel.”
Israeli broadcaster Kan-11 said it was the first attack on a likely Israeli-linked vessel on the high seas. Israeli officials believe the attack drone was launched directly from Iran, Channel 12 reported.
It was earlier reported that the Yemeni Houthis attacked the Al Jasrah cargo ship under the flag of Liberia in the Red Sea. The ship caught fire after it was hit by a shell.
The Houthis also launched a cruise missile at the Norwegian tanker Strinda. The ship was badly damaged.
As a result, this week the United States announced a special operation in the Red Sea with the participation of several countries.
