The G7 agreed to defer Ukraine’s debt repayments

A group of official creditors of Ukraine from the Group of Seven (G7) and Paris Club countries agreed to suspend payments on the official debt until 2027. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

Amendments to the corresponding Memorandum were signed by the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance Sergey Marchenko on December 21, 2023.

Thus, it will allow the continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the suspension of government and guaranteed government debt payments with a group of official creditors of Ukraine from the G7 and Paris Club countries, signed on September 14, 2022, until March 2027.

The signatories include representatives of the governments of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain and the United States of America.

“I thank our partners from the G7 countries for understanding Ukraine’s needs in war conditions. Reaching today’s agreement on the renegotiation of debt obligations allows us to reduce the burden in the budget until the end of the IMF program and save foreigners. exchange liquidity to support social spending. The voluntary suspension of debt payments is part of the international support package in the amount of 122 billion US dollars provided by partners of Ukraine,” Marchenko stressed.

As we have already written, during the 11 months of 2023, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine attracted about $37.4 billion in external financing for the urgent needs of the state budget.

It was also reported that Ukraine’s need for international aid for 2024 was reduced by almost $4 billion – to $37.3 billion.
