The High Qualification Commission of Judges is undergoing active consultations on what to do in this situation, and Ignatov himself is preparing a briefing.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges received a letter from the Security Service informing about Ignatov’s Russian citizenship.
ZN.UA’s sources in the Supreme Court of Justice and the High Council of Justice claim that the commission of judges is holding consultations on what to do in this situation.
Reports that Ignatov had a Russian passport began to actively spread back in June 2023. Then in an interview he denied these rumors. Ignatov said that he actually studied and worked in Russia in the early and mid-1990s, but only had a passport as a citizen of the USSR, which he received at the age of 16. According to him, the document did not contain any notes on acquiring citizenship of another country.
“Zerkalo Nedeli” writes that if the information from the SBU is true, then Roman Ignatov’s career ends not only as the head of the Higher Qualification Committee, but also as a judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal. Questions also arise not so much for the work of the competition commission with the participation of international experts and the GRP, which Ignatova appointed as a member of the Higher Qualification Committee, but for special services.
The verification of candidates at the request of the competition commission and the GRP took place during the winter-spring of 2023.
On November 23, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine announced a competition for 25 vacant positions of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
15 vacancies must be filled by judges of the Supreme Court of Justice of the first instance, and another ten are provided for judges of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The Public Council of International Experts should also evaluate and select candidates for the High Anti-Corruption Court together with the Higher Quality Committee of Ukraine.
