The cost of eggs and chicken meat breaks all records in Russia. Moreover, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation there is a shortage of them.

The period of the New Year holidays is always marked in Russia with excitement in the consumer market. But this year, many products that are familiar to Russians have increased in price significantly. Compared to last year, the price of bananas increased by 47%, oranges by 80%, and tomatoes by more than 120%. In November, Roskomnadzor blocked a popular website in the Russian Federation Today’s priceswhich published information about inflation that was unsatisfactory to the authorities.

Along with the price increase, shortages of some food products were recorded in Russia. For example, eggs began to be sold on a limited basis per person or individual, and to buy fish you had to stand in a kilometer long line.

Erdogan’s eggs for the Russians

Now the biggest problem for Russia is eggs. Prices for them, and for chicken itself, have increased by an average of 50% compared to last year. However, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, the increase in the value of these products is accompanied by a shortage. Sellers sell ten to just one person or sell them individually.

The Russian authorities came up with a creative solution to deal with this and turned to their “allies” Iran and Turkey. So, Recep Erdogan alone should give up to 1.2 billion eggs to the Russian Federation. To reduce their cost, the Russian government decided to zero the import duty on eggs from January 1 to June 30, 2024. Note that the tax is now 15%.

According to Russian Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev, such a decision should help curb growth in the winter and spring and solve the problem of the current deficit.

Here, Russians on social networks began to be angry that they can buy eggs only after the New Year. However, Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev confirmed that the first chicken eggs from Turkey without the corresponding import duty will arrive in Russia in two to three weeks.

The expert on Russia, Doctor of Economic Sciences Vladislav Inozemtsev explained the lack of eggs by the change in the income of the population of the Russian Federation: many of those before the war received an average income and claimed a ” good” standard of living found that their The costs for car maintenance, housing and community services, household and other services have increased significantly, thereby reducing the amount of funds allocated for food.

And the desire to save has caused a “switch” from, for example, beef and fish to cheaper products – eggs and poultry, which increases the demand for them.

“golden” bird

Prices for chicken meat in Russia are also breaking records, and shortages have been reported since October. Supply issues affect all consumer segments, including large fast food chains.

The head of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia, Igor Bukharov, also admitted that there were problems with supplies. According to him, the reasons are the lack of workers in poultry farms and logistical difficulties.

At the same time, the head of one of the farming companies, Nikita Konovalov, named other reasons. According to him, all vitamin and mineral supplements for chickens in Russia are imported from abroad, and they are becoming more expensive.

“Unfortunately, they do not have Russian analogues. The cost of equipment has increased significantly: before, a floor maintenance complex cost 3.5 million, but now it costs 9 million rubles. Spare parts has become more expensive. If you order equipment through third countries, it will not take a month to arrive, as earlier, but 3-4 months. Russian analogues are inferior in quality and productivity. Vaccines have become more expensive – they are also imported,” explained Konovalov.

As for consumers, the biggest shortage of chicken meat is for residents of Altai Territory, as well as Voronezh and Kursk regions.

Back to the USSR

The other day, a video from Voronezh was distributed on social networks, where people stood in a huge line to buy fish. Interestingly, the goods were sold directly from the back of the truck.

“Return to the USSR,” said the author of the entry.

After that, the local media began to make sure that now there seems to be no shortage of goods in the city, but why exactly this fish attracted the townspeople remains a mystery.

Eyewitnesses recorded a similar picture on December 9 in Sochi. A line for fish formed in the microdistrict of Kudepsta. According to eyewitnesses, people began to gather around the car where they were selling cheap trout. Many pensioners fought because someone tried to get through the purchase first.

“Did they bring sharks? Cat meat? Why such a stir?” – Russians asked in the comments on the video.
