At least 66% of Americans surveyed believe that the level of US support for Ukraine is sufficient or should be greater.
The percentage of those who want increased support increased from 21% to 31%. Among Democratic voters, this share increased by 13%, and among Republican voters by 7%.
At the same time, the share of those wishing to reduce aid to Ukraine dropped by 5%.
The poll, commissioned by the Ronald Reagan Institute, also found strong public support for arming Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
The study was conducted against the backdrop of discussions on the US aid package for these states, which the Biden administration proposes to adopt.
The survey showed that 59% of respondents support US military assistance to Ukraine, while 30% are against it. These are similar data to the YouGov survey, if you add those who are in favor of increasing aid – 22%, those who are in favor of providing assistance at the current level – 27%, and distribute proportionally to the undetermined – 22%. With a decrease in assistance in this survey – 28%.
Support for arming Ukraine rises even further, to 67%, when respondents are asked about the Reagan Doctrine, which promises to support allies against aggressors.
The poll found that 56% of respondents support and 28% oppose sending military equipment to Taiwan. As with Ukraine, support for arming Taiwan jumped to 65% when the question was asked in the context of the Reagan Doctrine.
The question about arming Israel was asked only in the context of the Reagan Doctrine, and found that 71% of respondents support military assistance to the US ally, while 23% oppose it.
Meanwhile, Senate leaders say an agreement on Ukraine and the US border is unlikely to be reached anytime soon, Reuters writes. It will likely be delayed until January, one senior Democrat said.
There are still ongoing discussions on the agreement, which includes Ukraine, Israel and US border security. Republican Minority Leader McConnell said those involved in the process are “making slow and steady progress,” he was quoted as saying by the agency. However, they need more time.
