Sanctions against Russian diamonds were predicted and preparations were made for it, Dmitry Peskov said.
Aggressor country Russia plans to evade EU sanctions against its diamonds. Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said this directly at a briefing on Tuesday, December 19.
“Regarding Russian diamonds, it is predictable, we are preparing for it. I don’t think there are any options for avoiding these sanctions. They exist, they will be implemented,” he promised.
To a clarifying question about whether the Russian Federation has options for avoiding sanctions against diamonds and whether they will be implemented, the representative of the Kremlin answered: “Absolutely.”
Peskov assured that “in any case, everything will be done in a way to protect and ensure the interests of Russia.”
He also does not see a major threat from the freezing of assets of Russian defense enterprises, which was also introduced by the 12th package of EU sanctions.
“An asset freeze for defense businesses is a small risk, because any assets that the EU could freeze are basically not there,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Peskov believes that “the 12th package indicates that the resources of places where sanctions can be introduced have been exhausted.”
We remind you that on December 18, the European Union announced the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. This includes strict restrictions against Russian diamonds. The ban also applies to jewelry containing Russian diamonds.
