The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Alexander Syrsky, announced this today, December 19, in his Telegram channel.
It is noted that in all three directions, the Ukrainian military holds the defense and destroys the enemy:
- The Bakhmut direction remains extremely important for the Russian invaders. They focus their main efforts on it and use the most combat-ready units of the landing forces, the marines and the “Storm z” and “Storm v” units formed from former criminals to conduct assault operations. The enemy’s goal in this direction is to attack the settlement of Chasov Yar, then Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk with subsequent access to the borders of the Donetsk region;
- In the Liman direction, Russian occupation forces switched to constant attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the directions of Makeyevka and Ternov. Combat operations are underway in the Seversky direction. The occupiers actively use equipment during assaults, which is constantly destroyed by Ukrainian defenders;
- The daily assault operations of Russian troops in the Sinkovka area do not stop with the aim of capturing and creating a bridgehead for a further attack on the city of Kupyansk.
The situation is complicated. We have to fight in conditions of the enemy’s advantage both in weapons and in the number of personnel,” notes Syrsky. “However, commanders and staffs monitor changes in the situation 24/7, analyze the actions of the enemy and their troops, and make effective management decisions to strengthen defense and destroy the enemy.
Syrsky noted that the enemy is suffering heavy losses, which are replenished with reserves of assault battalions formed from former prisoners. Thus, in the first half of December, the Russians lost about eight thousand military personnel in the zone of responsibility of the Khortitsa OSUS. In addition, more than five hundred units of enemy military equipment were destroyed or damaged, in particular:
- 67 tanks;
- more than a hundred armored combat vehicles;
- 77 guns and mortars of various calibers.
Unlike the aggressor, the Ukrainian defense forces are trying to achieve success through thoughtful planning of combat operations and the effective use of artillery, mortars, attack drones and small arms, Syrsky emphasized. “And the greatest value for us is the lives of our soldiers.” Minimizing losses is always a priority when planning operations.
