This was reported by Reuters with reference to the National Election Commission of Egypt.
Egyptian presidential elections took place on December 10-12. The turnout for voting, according to official data, was 66.8%.
In addition to al-Sisi, three more candidates took part in the elections: the leader of the Social Democratic Party Farid Zahran, the head of the liberal Wafd Party Abdel Sanada Yamama and the leader of the Republican People’s Party Hazem Omar. As Reuters notes, none of al-Sisi’s rivals can be called an outstanding politician.
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has served as President of Egypt since 2014. His predecessor, Mohamed Morsi, was overthrown in June 2013 as a result of a military coup organized by al-Sisi, who then served as defense minister.
El-Sisi was first elected to a four-year presidential term and then re-elected in 2018. In 2019, Egypt adopted amendments to the Constitution that increased the presidential term to six years.
