Of all foreign currencies, counterfeiters in Ukraine mostly make money from American dollars.
The National Bank of Ukraine asked Ukrainians to be careful with currency transactions and warned about the risk of receiving fake US dollars. This was stated in a statement from the regulator on Sunday, December 17.
It is indicated that banknotes in denominations of 100 and 50 dollars are often counterfeit.
“In 2022, the share of such banknotes will reach 99% of all counterfeit dollars,” said the NBU.
At the same time, 100 “bucks” are more often counterfeited – 76% of the total number of seized counterfeit bills consists of them. Fake $50 accounts for 23%.
Overall, according to the regulator, in 2022, counterfeit dollars will account for 91% of the total number of detected counterfeits in all foreign currencies. In second place is the euro. 8% of such counterfeit notes were detected.
Detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security discovered exchange offices in Kyiv selling fake dollars.
Let’s recall that in August the Security Service, together with the BEB, conducted a special operation in three regions of Ukraine, as a result of which a strong group of counterfeiters who planned to sell 500 thousand counterfeit dollars in Kyiv is neutralized.
In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained five people who were selling counterfeit dollars and illegally storing firearms and ammunition.
