The Ministry of Economy of Latvia noted that Russia and Belarus can influence other countries through participation in strategic companies.
Latvia aims to ban the citizens of Russia and Belarus from participating in businesses important for the country’s security. On Tuesday, June 14, Delfi reported.
Corresponding amendments to the national security law were adopted by the Saeima Commission of Latvia on defense, internal affairs and prevention of corruption.
The document states that Russia and Belarus, its citizens or its legal entities cannot acquire an integral part or a decisive voting right in a business that is important from the point of view of Latvia’s national security, nor may be a member of such business or be. its true beneficiary.
If the citizens of Russia or Belarus already have significant participation or decisive influence in such businesses, they can no longer exercise their right to vote here. Actions taken contrary to this provision will be declared void.
The Latvian Ministry of Economy, justifying the need to adopt the bill, explained that Russia’s military aggression on the territory of the sovereign state of Ukraine grossly violates international law and significantly threatens the security and stability of European Union, including Latvia.
They added that Belarus, which supports Russia’s actions, can be considered an ally and equally responsible for Russia’s military aggression. And Moscow and Minsk can influence other countries by participating in strategically important companies.
We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, congratulated the citizens of the country occupying the national holiday. In his greeting, he demanded that the Russian Federation be defeated in a comprehensive war against Ukraine.
