Ukraine is not ready, but we will not block negotiations.

The anti-Ukrainian Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said that he will not block the decision to begin negotiations with Ukraine on joining the EU.

    .

This was reported on December 13 by Dennik N.

At the same time, he believes that “this is a political decision that will have nothing to do with reality, because Ukraine is absolutely not ready to start negotiations.”

Now only Hungary is the only country that can block the decision to begin negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the European Union at the EU leaders’ summit on December 14-15.

Reuters reported on December 13 that the European Commission decided to delay the allocation of 10 billion euros to Hungary.

The European Commission said Hungary’s latest judicial reforms must first be published in the country’s official journal for them to take effect, allowing up to €10 billion of Budapest’s development aid to be unfrozen from the bloc’s overall budget.

The bloc hoped that unblocking the money would help influence Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. But his senior assistant demanded up to 30 billion euros.

The European Commission has responded by raising the stakes further as the EU is locked in a fight with a deepening Hungary over support for Ukraine, which Orban is threatening to veto at a summit of the bloc’s leaders in Brussels on December 14-15.

Earlier, Viktor Orban’s adviser Balazs Orban said that Hungary would lift its 50 billion euro veto for Ukraine if the EU unfreezes all its funds.

EU funding for Hungary and funding for Ukraine are two separate issues. But if the EU insists that Ukraine’s funding comes from a revised EU budget, then the two issues will become intertwined, Orban said.

At the same time, the adviser to the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed that Hungary still opposes the full four-year aid plan for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros. Budapest offers funding for one year without changes to the EU budget.
