We are no longer letting people go,” David Arakhamia, head of the Servant of the People faction, said in a conversation with Interfax-Ukraine.
In fact, the number of people who want to leave parliament is much higher. We are no longer letting people go… We are saying that we simply will not vote for this, because people must see out until the end (of the current term of the Verkhovna Rada – Rakurs) and pass the laws necessary for the state,” Arakhamia said.
He believes that the reduction in the number of members of the Verkhovna Rada cannot but affect its activities. Therefore, the parliament decided to optimize the work of parliament and reduce the minimum number of people’s deputies in groups in order to preserve these groups, so that the parliament, conditionally, until the new convocation, would work approximately in the same structural regime in which it began to work.
Currently, the quantitative composition of the Verkhovna Rada is 400 people’s deputies (according to the law there should be 450).
According to the proposed changes to the regulations, the minimum number of deputy factions (groups) during martial law and within 90 days after its lifting or suspension is 14 people.
In accordance with the current regulations, the number of persons in a deputy group cannot be less than the number of persons in the smallest faction formed at the first session of the next convocation of the Verkhovna Rada.
As of December 11, the smallest faction in the Ukrainian parliament is “Holos” – 20 people’s deputies (when the faction was formed at the first session there were 22). The parliamentary groups “Restoration of Ukraine” and “For the Future” have 16 and 17 members, respectively.
