Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced this at the G7 summit.
Also at the online summit, G7 leaders noted that they would continue to support the Ukrainian peace formula.
We are committed to supporting an independent, democratic Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders,” the G7 statement said.
In addition, Japan will expand anti-Russian sanctions due to aggression against Ukraine by the end of 2023, and will also add to the restriction list organizations of third countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions.
Earlier, the Japanese government also announced that it would grant Ukrainians the status of persons equated to refugees.
The Japanese government has launched a new program to support foreign nationals who have fled conflict zones but do not meet Japan’s criteria for refugee status.
Evacuees who meet the requirements will be recognized as refugees. The program was introduced on December 1, taking into account people from Ukraine.
It is noted that, if desired, evacuees can learn Japanese language lessons and other instructions on life in Japan. They will also be eligible for financial support.
