The second of four Kyiv Court of Appeal judges jailed for bribery has been sent to custody for two months.
The High Anti-Corruption Court chose a preventive measure for the second judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal, Yuriy Sliva, in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of UAH 2.5 million. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced this on Wednesday, December 6.
The duration of the preventive measure is 60 days.
It is noted that in this way the investigating judge of the Supreme Court partially satisfied the request of the SAPO prosecutor against the second judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal, who, together with the other three judges of the court of appeal, is suspected of receiving bribe in the amount of 35 thousand dollars for making a decision to cancel the confiscation of property.
The investigating judge applied a preventive measure to the said suspect in the form of detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of UAH 2.5 million with the imposition of appropriate procedural duties.
The suspect himself said at the court hearing that he did not know about the money in the instant coffee donation, and that when he found it in the searches, he was “surprised.” He also argued that these funds could be taken for decision making. According to the prosecutor, the $8,300 package was hidden behind his pants and under his jacket.
Let’s recall that a week ago in Kyiv, four judges of the Kyiv Court of Appeal were exposed for taking bribes, demanding a bribe of 35 thousand dollars for making a “necessary” decision. The first of the suspected judges was given a preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of posting a bail of UAH 4 million.
