While the war in Ukraine sees EU countries seeking to diversify their energy supplies, the UK acts as an import hub for liquefied natural gas.
Britain has sharply increased the amount of natural gas supplied to the EU against the backdrop of Russia’s war with Ukraine. This is confirmed by data from the Office for National Statistics, according to The Guardian on Monday, June 13th.
This led to a record monthly increase in exports of goods to the continent, despite Brexit.
Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that EU merchandise exports rose to £ 16.4bn in April, the highest monthly level at current prices since comparable records began in 1997.
While the war in Ukraine is driving EU countries to diversify their energy supplies, evidence suggests that Britain is playing the role of an import hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG), which then pipe to the continent.
Recall, earlier it was reported that the European Union has developed a plan that will help to decline the supply of Russian gas.
