All political decisions regarding the transfer of multi-role American F-16 fighters to Ukraine have been made; it remains to solve the technical issues of training Ukrainian pilots, technicians and the corresponding infrastructure. This was said on Tuesday, December 5, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba at a joint press conference with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Hanke Brains Slot in Kyiv.
“Regarding the F-16, firstly, all political decisions have been made. We are already in the technical preparation phase. Therefore, as soon as the technical training of pilots, technicians and infrastructure is completed in Ukraine, the aircraft that it is in Ukraine, will defend our airspace and protect our soldiers who are going to fight,” said Kuleba.
He added that the Center’s work continues to train Ukrainian pilots and technicians to operate F-16 fighters.
“The Netherlands has already started transferring the aircraft to the appropriate training center in Romania. They are helping us build the appropriate infrastructure. Today I received an assurance that the obligations assumed by the Netherlands to transfer the F-16s to Ukraine will be fulfilled,” he said. He.
In this regard, Slot added that the training of Ukrainian pilots began in Romania in November. He said that various countries, including Denmark, are taking early steps to make possible the use of F-16s in Ukrainian skies.
Earlier, the media reported that the Ukrainians began training the F-16 in Denmark. A training center was also opened in Romania, where Ukrainian pilots can master the F-16. The training will last at least six months.
We remind you that a special structure, Office-61, was created under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which will deal with the integration of F-16 fighters into the general system of the Defense Forces of our state.
