The Israeli military knew in advance that Hezbollah would resume its attacks in northern Israel after a week-long break with Hamas, the IDF chief of staff said.
The Israel Defense Forces have begun the third phase of their ground offensive against Hamas and encircle the town of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. This was announced by IDF Chief of Staff Hertz Halevi, The Times of Israel wrote.
According to the chief of staff, the military already knows that Hezbollah will resume its attacks in northern Israel after a week-long ceasefire with Hamas.
“Sixty days after the start of the war, our forces surrounded the Khan Yunis area in southern Gaza. At the same time, we are working to deepen the gains in the northern part of the strip. Anyone who thinks that the IDF will not know how to continue fighting after a truce, “I made a mistake. Hamas feels this strongly,” Halevi said.
The chief of staff also said that in recent days, many operatives, including senior commanders, have been fired.
“We captured many Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza, and now we are operating against its centers of gravity in the south,” he added.
According to him, the IDF’s military pressure on Hamas contributed to the achievement of the war’s goals, especially the return of the hostages.
Let’s recall that on December 1, the Israel Defense Forces resumed fighting in the Gaza Strip, accusing the Palestinian radical group Hamas of disrupting the ceasefire. On December 3, Israel announced that it was expanding ground operations throughout the Gaza Strip.
