The director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, Shalanda Young, wrote a letter to congressional leaders indicating that the United States of America will completely exhaust resources to help Ukraine by the end of this calendar year. Bloomberg reported this.
There is no magic funding source to solve this issue. We are running out of money and almost running out of time,” she noted.
Young stressed that without Congressional action by the end of the year, resources will run out to purchase more weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as well as provide equipment to the US military stockpile. Congress’ failure to approve new support would “bring Kyiv to its knees on the battlefield” and would also “increase the likelihood of Russian military victories.”
The White House is expected to further brief lawmakers this week on the consequences of not continuing funding for Ukraine through the end of the year.
Recall that in November, US President Joe Biden signed a temporary spending bill to prevent a government shutdown. This interim budget does not include funds for assistance to Ukraine and Israel.
And the coordinator of the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, stated that the United States of America spent 96% of the funds allocated to help Ukraine.
