This is stated in a statement from Rheinmetall. The statement also added that the ammunition will be delivered in 2025.
The customer is a NATO partner country that intends to support Ukraine in its defense struggle with effective long-term military assistance.
The projectiles will be manufactured by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, the group’s recently acquired Spanish subsidiary.
Production and delivery of about 40 thousand shells for Ukraine on pre-order should take place in 2024, the statement says.
The demand for artillery ammunition is now very high, which is due not only to the needs of Ukraine, but also to the need to replenish the largely empty ammunition depots of Germany and other NATO and EU countries.
Background
The European Union transferred about 300 thousand of the promised million shells to Ukraine.
This was previously announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, who called for greater interaction between the defense industries of Ukraine and the Alliance in order to provide Kyiv with the arms supplies necessary to defeat Russia.
We need to create a common Euro-Atlantic defense industry space,” Kuleba said, adding that this will ensure security both for Ukraine and for the NATO countries themselves.
In recent months, Kyiv has also been making efforts to attract the world’s leading arms manufacturers to operate in Ukraine, trying to diversify its dependence on weapons and ammunition provided by allies.
