If Putin goes to the G20 meeting in Brazil, he knows what could happen, Lula da Silva said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will be invited to the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, but Brazil may arrest him on a warrant from the International Criminal Court. This is what the country’s leader, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said, Terra reports.
According to him, Putin will be invited to the G20 summit to be held next year in Rio de Janeiro, but the Kremlin leader will have to “assess the consequences” of such a visit.
“If Putin goes to the G20 meeting in Brazil, he knows what can happen,” said Lula da Silva.
As you know, in March the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. Thus, all countries that have ratified the Rome Statute must arrest the President of Russia if he visits their states.
Lula da Silva earlier said that Brazil’s judicial system will decide whether Putin should be arrested if he attends the G20 summit.
In September, Justice and Public Security Minister Flavio Dino said Brazil was considering withdrawing from the International Criminal Court.
