WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge said the European Region is experiencing the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the world. The trend has not changed for many years.
“50% of people in the European Region are diagnosed late – people are seeking care too late so we can reach them sooner,” he said.
The WHO Regional Director for Europe added that the trend in the European Region has not changed in 10 years. Some countries in the region have unacceptably high mortality rates, but others have almost completely stopped HIV transmission.
As reported, the sixth person in the world has been cured of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
We remind you that in 2023, 9,769 cases of HIV and 2,738 cases of AIDS were registered in Ukraine. As of November 1, 158,803 cases of HIV infection and 48,908 cases of AIDS were identified in Ukraine.
