American President Joe Biden lights the main US Christmas tree in front of the White House.
In Washington, DC, the Christmas tree is lit on December 1st. US President Joe Biden took part in the annual tradition with his wife Jill. Associated Press reports.
The National Christmas Tree is lit in the Ellipse, an area known as President’s Park on the south side of the White House.
Biden wishes the American people a Merry Christmas. “The holidays are also a reminder that we are a great nation because we are good people. That’s what I see all over America, including now,” he said.
The tree lighting ceremony is an annual holiday tradition at the White House. It is accompanied by a countdown and musical performances. The ceremony was hosted by country singer Mickey Guyton, and musical numbers were performed by Dionne Warwick, Annie Clark, Joe Walsh, Darren Criss and others.
The White House tree is chosen by the National Christmas Tree Association. This is a 12-foot Norway spruce from the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. On November 28, the tree fell due to a strong gust of wind. But just a few hours after replacing the connecting cable, the tree stood upright again.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian main Christmas tree, according to tradition, will be installed in Sophia Square in Kyiv. It will be installed earlier, before December 6, and removed before January 10.
One meter of New Year’s tree costs about 135 hryvnias. The Christmas tree will be installed and decorated at patrons’ expense.
