Now the Consulate General in St. Petersburg is responsible for consular and passport issues in the district of the Consulate General in Kaliningrad.
The German consulate in the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea will close on November 30. This was stated in an official statement on the department’s website.
“The Consulate General in Kaliningrad will be closed from November 30, 2023. Now the Consulate General in St. Petersburg is responsible for consular and passport issues in the district of the Consulate General in Kaliningrad, while the visa department of the embassy in Moscow is solely responsible for processing visa issues,” it said in the message.
As it is known, four of the five German consulates in Russia were closed in May, when Berlin tried, at the request of the Russian Federation, to reduce the number of civil servants in the country to 350.
It was also reported that the city council of the Finnish city of Turku unanimously decided to buy the building of the former Russian Consulate General and build a new building in its place.
