They can replace the people’s deputy from the banned pro-Russian party OPZZH and suspected of treason Nestor Shufrich.
The “Honestly” movement writes that traditionally this committee is headed by representatives of the parliamentary opposition.
The “Voice” faction nominated People’s Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, who is the first deputy chairman of the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy, for this position. The draft resolution was registered by the head of the “Voice” faction, Alexandra Ustinova.
Instead, the European Solidarity faction registered a resolution appointing Rostislav Pavlenko as head of the Freedom of Speech Committee.
Co-chair of the EU faction Irina Gerashchenko, who registered the draft resolution, noted that Pavlenko is the head of the party’s analytical service, he is behind the authorship of many important laws and amendments, including in the field of media.
“He has unconditional authority in the journalistic community and will definitely be able to bring life back to the barely alive committee of freedom of speech,” Gerashchenko assures.
The HONEST movement also asked the Batkishchyna faction in parliament whether it would register its draft resolution and nominate its candidate for the post of chairman of the Freedom of Speech Committee. At the time of publication of the news there was no response, as soon as we receive it we will immediately publish it.
In 2022, the HONEST Movement initiated an appeal to parliament demanding the dismissal of Nestor Shufrich, a member of the Register of Zradnikov, from the post of chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech. This appeal was supported by a number of media and public organizations.
In the winter of this year, Vice Speaker Alexander Kornienko noted that “Nestor Ivanovich” must write a letter of resignation himself. At the end of the summer of 2023, Kornienko noted that the issue should be put on the agenda by the chairman of the SN faction, David Arakhamia, or his deputy, Andrei Motovilovets.
