The SBU has collected evidence against Russian Lieutenant General Yevgeny Poplavsky, deputy commander of the central military district of the Russian Federation, who committed war crimes in Ukraine. During the occupation of Liman, he led the repression against local members of the resistance movement. On his orders, the occupiers kidnapped Ukrainian patriots and tortured them. The press center of the Security Service of Ukraine reported this on November 29.
It was established that on April 20, 2022, this attacker, along with four subordinates, broke into the house of a local businessman. Poplavsky demanded that the man transfer the warehouse premises of his company for the needs of the occupiers. In these trains, the enemies wanted to shoot staged videos about the fake distribution of the so-called Russian humanitarian aid.
The businessman refused to cooperate with his enemies, and they responded by locking his wife in the basement of their own house, and taking her husband with them. The victim was taken to one of his trains. Before leaving, Poplavsky ordered his subordinate to throw a live grenade into the basement where the entrepreneur’s wife was imprisoned if her husband did not return in an hour. The man was tortured until he agreed to the occupiers’ conditions.
General Poplavsky was informed in absentia of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 438 (issuing an order to commit actions aimed at violating the laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Let us recall that on November 4, the SBU reported suspicions to the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill, who is massively using the religious communities of the Russian Church under his control on the territory of Russia, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
