“We hope that during his visit to Kyiv, the chancellor will finally fulfill Germany’s promises regarding arms supply and Ukraine’s entry into the EU,” the ambassador said.
He stressed that Ukraine needs heavy weapons such as Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers and Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
“The announcements alone will not help us in the war against the occupiers. Therefore, we are hoping for specific dates from the Chancellor when exactly the weapons will arrive. Especially since the promises were made a few months ago. ago, ”Melnik said.
He also hopes that Scholz, along with Macron and Draghi, will give a signal that Ukraine could be an EU candidate.
“This will raise the morale of Ukrainians and clearly show Russia that the EU is united in supporting a free Ukraine,” he concluded.
