The World Health Organization on November 22 reported outbreaks of undiagnosed pneumonia in children in northern China. WHO does not know whether they are related to the overall increase in respiratory infections in the country or have arisen separately.
The organization requested additional epidemiological and clinical information. According to the rules, China must respond to WHO within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, videos of hospitals overcrowded with parents and children are being published on social networks.
Non-government-controlled Chinese media are also reporting that hospitals in some parts of the country are overcrowded.
Chinese authorities explain the outbreak of influenza-like illnesses this winter by lifting quarantine. The World Health Organization called on Chinese people to take “measures to reduce the risk.”
Chinese authorities reported that no unusual or new pathogens or unusual clinical manifestations were identified, and the above-mentioned overall increase in respiratory diseases was caused by multiple known pathogens, WHO said.
