Important stories established that 70-year-old Sergei Mironov and his wife adopted a Ukrainian child who was secretly brought to the Russian Federation.
Party Chairman A Just Russia – For Truth 70-year-old Sergei Mironov secretly adopted a 10-month-old girl kidnapped during the occupation of the Kherson region and changed her name and citizenship. This was stated in an investigation by a Russian opposition publication. Important stories with reference to the relevant documents published on Thursday, November 23.
The deputy and his wife adopted 10-month-old Margarita Prokopenko, who was taken from Ukraine and was in an orphanage in Kherson during the occupation of the city by the Russian army. From there she was taken to Russia and secretly changed her name and citizenship: thus she became the Russian Marina Mironova.
“This is the first documented case of the adoption of a Ukrainian child by a Russian politician of this rank. According to the lawyers we interviewed, from the point of view of international law, this could qualify as a war crime and be considered that is genocide ,” the message said.
At the end of August 2022, Mironov’s wife Inna Varlamova arrived in the Kherson region with her first deputy in the State Duma, Yana Lantratova. They visited the Kherson Regional Children’s Hospital, where 10-month-old Margarita Prokopenko and two-year-old Ilya Vashchenko are being treated. Immediately after discharge, the children were taken from the orphanage and brought to Moscow for “examination, determination of further treatment tactics and rehabilitation.”
In December 2022, Sergei Mironov and Inna Varlamova adopted Margarita Prokopenko, who was taken from Kherson. He is a little over a year old. At the request of the adoptive parents, the child’s personal data could be changed, which was done: the girl became Marina Sergeevna Mironova. Not only his name and patronymic were changed, but also his place of birth: instead of the Ukrainian Kherson – Podolsk near Moscow.
A source familiar with the situation of Margarita and Ilya said that Margarita’s biological mother was deprived of parental rights, and her father died, but the child still has relatives.
Ilya’s fate is completely unknown. The media established that just one year after his deportation in September 2023, he received a new birth certificate. It follows from this that Ilya was in the Moscow region.
Let’s recall that the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andrei Kostin, discussed with the member of the British Parliament, Alicia Kearns, possible ways to create an international mechanism to stop deportations and return Ukrainian children home.
We previously wrote that the teenager Ermokhin, who was expelled by the Russians from Mariupol, returned to Ukraine.
