Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party could win 35 of the 150 seats in the Dutch parliament, according to a poll.

According to exit polls, the right-wing populist Freedom Party of Geert Wilders, whose program includes a referendum on leaving the European Union, won the election in the Netherlands. Reuters reported this on November 23.

The Freedom Party could win 35 of the 150 seats in parliament. Their closest rival, the Labour-Green coalition of former EU Commissioner Frans Timmermans, has 10 fewer seats.

Exit polls typically do not deviate from actual results by more than two parliamentary seats, and Wilders’ party’s lead is too large to be a polling error.

According to Reuters, Wilders won the election thanks to anti-immigration rhetoric, based on widespread fears of rising living costs and an overburdened health care system. The politician also repeatedly said that the Netherlands should stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, because Ukraine needs these weapons for self-defense.

Wilders has lived under heavy police protection for years because of his insults against Islam and Muslims and his calls to ban mosques and the Koran in the Netherlands.

As reported, parliamentary elections were held in the Netherlands on November 22, the results of which will determine who will be the next prime minister and replace the head of government Mark Rutte.

As you know, in July the government of the Netherlands, led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, resigned. He explained this decision by a disagreement on the issue of migration – the parties could not agree on measures to reduce the number of refugees.
