One of the accused is a 20-year-old Russian hockey player who played in one of the clubs in Silesia and has been in Poland since 2021.
The Polish prosecutor’s office in Lublin submitted to the district court an indictment against 16 people accused of participating in a spy ring. This was reported by the radio station Radio RMF.
All defendants were charged with participating in an organized criminal group that acted in favor of foreign intelligence.
15 of the 16 accused are in custody. According to the prosecutor’s office, they face up to ten years in prison.
It was noted that all the defendants in the case are foreigners from countries located to the east of Poland. One of the accused is a 20-year-old Russian hockey player who played in one of the clubs in Silesia and has been in Poland since 2021.
“The defendants carried out surveillance activities in several cities in Poland until March 2023, particularly near critical infrastructure, military facilities and ports,” the prosecutor’s office said.
These people were also accused of anti-Polish propaganda and sabotage preparations; they are suspected of installing security cameras on the highways where Western aid is brought to Ukraine, as well as installing GPS sensors on vehicles transporting these goods.
We remind you that a Russian hockey player was detained in Poland for espionage. On June 13, the district court in Lublin decided to temporarily arrest the Russian; the hockey player faces up to 10 years in prison.
It was previously reported that in Switzerland, a third of Russian diplomats are suspected of espionage.
