Legendary golf champion Tiger Woods has rejected a nearly $ 1 billion deal in a controversial new tournament funded by Saudi Arabian, the chief operating officer told The Washington Post.
“Woods turned down the deal, which was too big to think about; We are talking about the first nine digits. LIV Golf Investment Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman told The Post in an article earlier this week.
Norman said Woods and Jack Nicklaus, who he believes were offered $ 100 million, turned down the deals because neither of them wanted to jeopardize what the Post calls a “generational legacy.”
The LIV Golf Tour described the success as “Sports Laundromat. The operation aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s reputation amid human rights abuses and the murder and amputation of part of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. L’US intelligence confirmed that Khashoggi’s assassination was ordered by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Mickelson said the Saudis were “horrible men who should be involved” earlier this year in an interview with reporter Alan Shipnuk, his unauthorized biographer.
“We know they killed Khashoggi and have a horrible history of human rights. They were killed there for being gay. If I knew all this, why would I consider it?” Mickelson asked. “Because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Mickelson quit golf this year because of his comments, but is now participating in the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series tournament in London.
Mickelson was promoting the tournament at a press conference on Thursday when defenders picked up a squirrel to face a golfer there again.
But other journalists lobbied Michelson for his involvement. “Ultimately, you might look like Saudi Arabia,” said one.

On Thursday, the PGA Tour indefinitely suspended all 17 golfers at its LIV club from touring, including Mickelson, who reportedly made a pass for $ 200 million.
The Saudis are planning to host one of Former President Donald Trump’s LIV tournaments at a course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
